F R E E D O M

Last week, I finally told HughesNet that I didn't need them anymore.

NO. MORE. SATELLITE. INTERNET.

I was only a month behind my goal of getting rid of HughesNet, but it came along with a move to a new city and state. And the most pleasant surprise is a really high speed internet connection for $36, along with a package of cable tv (I may go with DirecTV later since their programming is better and they have some channels I really like). I told the person when I signed up for high speed internet that I liked the internet music stations like SomaFm and Radio Paradise, and she said there was no problem. We'll see.

NO MORE $60/MTH FOR DIALUP OVER THE SATELLITE.

Beyond this, I really don't have anything to add to the blog. The links on the right side provide great places to get news on the (poor) state of the US internet. I'll leave it here (with sporadic updates) for people wondering about HughesNet and other satellite internet providers.

To those people, I would recommend, DON'T DO IT.

HughesNet, it's been a long and difficult relationship over the last year since you implemented FAP caps last year and started started penalizing people for using what they paid for. I won't miss the pain-in-the-ass headaches you caused me. In fact, I'll be glad to read in the future when you fail for the reasons mentioned in this blog and then file for bankruptcy. You won't be missed. Just another example of corporate greed killing another business.

Yes, I can understand what you are talking about. I have had HughesNet for 1 year. I found out that cable is now in my area. I was jumping up and down for a few days. I paid $79.00 a month for limited service. For that price, you should have no restrictions on your downloads. For someone who likes to download, stream movies, or play games online, HughesNet will make you pay. Have a little fun and it's FAP time. This company does nothing but take advantage of people who have no other option for internet besides dial up. I was told that the reason satellite internet is so expensive is because of the technology. That may be true, but to me you should pay for the value of the service that you receive. I would say that would be about $25-30month since you can't do much but read email.

My god!
I wish I would have known how truly awful Hughesntet was.
I watch 4 or 5 youtube videos and BLAMMO!!!! all of the sudden, im slower than dailup.
I want to e-mail hughesnet to tell them how sorry they are, but I dont have time to wait 15 minutes for my e-mail to load.
We shall have cable ISP soon and I will drop this garbage like a bad habit!

10 minutes from finding this link on Google to the page actually loading. Got 'FAPped' (again) by Hughesnet today. If you are thinking about Hughesnet, in my opinion, don't - get dial-up. 28k or something would work just fine and will be a hell of a lot quicker!

Not being outrageous in my downloading - trying to backup some files, watch a couple videos... and now I'm screwed for 24 hours. I run my business off this thing too, so more fool me! Screwed. Never used to be like this but recently... Ugh...

I don't know if Hughesnet are getting the message - people are paying them a LOT of money for this service - which is crap. I hope everyone ditches them and leaves them in the realms of cyberspace - alone. It's scandalous. Preying on those whom have no other choice. Shame on you Hughesnet! For the money we pay you, give us some damned service!!!!!!!!!

Yet another reason to hate HughesNet: it doesn't work with the wildly popular service Twitter. Try clicking on Twitter "search" and you will almost certainly get a "500 internal server error." I live in the country so I have NO option except paying through the nose for substandard broadband. But I can't call it "dial-up." Been there, done that, and HughesNet is lightning-fast by comparison.

HughesNet is the worst! I was on the professional plan for 5 years and my speeds went steadily downhill. When they finally were a quarter of the "typical" speeds, I complained. They told me that since they don't guarantee speed, that they could take it down to 1 kb and I would have to live with it. A wisp system just came into our area so I told HughesNet to stick it! The wisp system is great, and I'm thrilled to be rid of Hughes.

I'm so, so, so glad that Alltel's internet card service is now in this rural area and I've suffered $79.95 / mo. charges for horrid service.

Have you ever tried to call customer service or technical service? Then I guess you have figured out that Hughesnet customer service is a call center in India. That's real helpful.

A block of IP's (including what was associated with my block) was listed on the RBLS due to someone being a notorious spammer over Hughnet services. I called the service center after troubleshooting why I was having email trouble and found the block of IP addresses had all been blacklisted on the RBLS's. I told the "technical support" exactly what the problem was and how to fix it and he stammered around in broken English and all he was able to tall me was that "The lead technicians will be in tomorrow and I will have them look into it". He wouldn't even take down all of the IP information I spent 2 hours looking up which would have helped ANYONE in charge of the Hughesnet systems to put in the proper paperwork to get the Hughesnet IP addresses de-listed.

I started looking around to see if other people had the same problems and I wasn't really surprised to see opinions and experiences like on http://tinyurl.com/poqpl7 (which made me laugh really hard) and comments like these on this blog.

Now I'm dancing a happy dance - NO MORE HUGHESNET!!!!!!

I'm late to this blog entry but after today, and a year dealing w this crappy ISP, I needed somewhere to vent.
HUGHESNET SUCKS!
My god, who actually pays for this that has a choice?
Well, I guess nobody because this company sucks on just about every level of suckage.
I'm one of the unlucky few has no choice since I literally live on an island.
Even as I watch the waves hit the beach and seals waddle along the shore I am still fuming over getting FAPPED earlier in the day due to the BS that is HughesNet.
All I can do is hope that someday, I too, will be able to say,
"SUCK THIS HUGHESNET!"

Like everyone else on this site, I have to say my experience with hughesnet has been bad (for me). I paid several hundred dollars to buy the dish and modem, upgraded to a "faster" modem later and have been paying $79 per month. My download speed after 5:00pm ranged from 9 to 16 kbs!!!!! And early in the morning I could get the much better speed of 170 to 190 kbs. I now have high speed over the phone line (the telephone company just added it to this area) and can only get their slowest speed - ~550 kbs... and I pay $30 a month for it. Yes, hughesnet is expensive and it sucks. The do take advantage of people who have no other option.

Now, almost 3 months since my last post, I can finally look up to the sky (hoping to direct my rage at a HughesNet satellite) and scream, “SUCK THIS HUGHESNET!”.
After 2 years dealing with this less than lackluster ISP I, finally, went back to Dial Up and am getting much faster downloads / uploads than I had been with HughesNet for the last 4 or 5 months.
An appreciable difference, too.
I mean FAST, as compared to HughesNet.
Should have switched back long ago.
In fact, I should have never signed on in the first place.
Wireless is coming here soon so I’ll gladly embrace “fast” and “stable” Dial Up till then.
So, once again,
“SUCK THIS HUGHESNET!”.
(feels fantastic to finally be able to scream that)

I know I'm late to the party, but was searching for other people with Hughesnet problems and found this blog. I can just add my frustration. I paid for the next level of service (since my wife and I are both on lots of the time) and it is just glacially slow. Sometimes it is slow for 3 or 4 days and then inexplicably comes back to it's normal, just-short-of-committing-suicide "speed". I live in a rural area where there is no cable or even DSL - but US Cellular has recently upgrade their cell towers to 3G, and so I have been tethering with my Blackberry and it is great! Plus, my VPN works so I can actually sign onto work. Sadly, I have another 13 months on the contract with Hughes-Crap-Net - but then it's BUH-BYE forever.

I too am a frustrated customer of Hughesnet. After reading several of these comments on the terrible service of Hughesnet (all of which I agree), I feel that we need to take our complaints to the next level. We have had Hughesnet since Feb. of 2009 and have had nothing but problems along with non-existent customer service. It is incredulous, to say the least, the bumbling idiots that one has to deal with on the phone when you call their customer service (yes, I have resorted to name calling). I find it nearly impossible to understand them when they try to walk you through their steps of "system analysis". Now,if you are skeptic of what I am writing and find it hard to believe, I ask that you call their customer service, ask them a few questions, and then ask to speak with a supervisor. If you ask for a supervisor, they will say "I cannot do that for you, but please sir just let me go through a system analysis." We made five phone calls this morning, got five different people, and out two out of those five hung up on us after we asked to speak with a supervisor. They, of course, deny that they hung-up when you call them back. It sounds as though we all have the same problems, but I sincerely believe that we must take this to the next level in order to prove our point that Hughesnet is a scam company. If we don't take action, many more innocent people will be duped into this quagmire of deceit.

Woo Hoo! DSL is FINALLY available in our area! We've had the same problems as all of you. Most recently, I joined facebook and play Farmville on there. Suddenly, I was exceeding the FAP for the first time in the 8 years or so we've had this (started out as Direcway...). The service SUCKS, the customer service SUCKS. I can't wait to get rid of it and am counting the seconds until they get out here to set up our DSL. (Which, by the way, is cheaper and much, much faster!).

Unfortunately I had no alternative for a long time, and hughs net just kept getting slower as more people used it. I was told it was slowing down because of peak times. Tech support was terrible. Then when I finanly did cancel it the kept my account open and kept charging me. I am trying to take action, but no luck so far, after talking to tons of people overseas that treat me like crap. Hughs net sucks. The worst technical support in the world, really

Ya so I accidently found this page by typing Hughs Net sucks in bing lol so that was awesome!! I have had this terrible service for right at a year now payin 90 some bucks a month for dial up is what it comes down to. See I play alot of online games and these people actually told me that it was great for it when I was ordering the service come to find out that it blows along with every other thing it has to offer. However my contract is up in a few months or so and I plan on canceling but I have no were to turn still besides dial up but at least with dial up its only $5 bucks a month for more or less the same internet speeds its horrible what they are doing and charging people they should just close there doors and say srry but we fail as a internet provider lol.

cureI spend about 1/2 my time out here on the farm. The other half is spent where I have real hi-speed internet. I'm thinking of just shutting this crap trap down and not using internet out here.
I used to have really bad dial-up using analog lines that always had static. HughesNet is often slower than it.
HugheNet SUCKS! It took me five minutes to get to his page and now the "visual verification" didn't show up. It'll take at least 5 minutes to post this note.

I had hughes net for about 3 years and I prayed every night before I went to bed that DSL would reach my rural area and finally it did . Thank goodness. What a horrible horrible rip off satellite internet is and if you have the nerve to watch a you tube video they slow you down for 24 hours as a punishment. These satellite natzi's need to go bankrupt and the sooner the better and it definitely will happen no doubt about it.

I am currently with hughesnet, and these bandwidth caps are annoying, cant play online games, cant download anything. I recently heard that real ip's are capping people at 150gb a month, id be soo much happier with that then a 200mb daily limit, hughesnet can go die in a hole on the bottom of the marianus trench. They told me i can play online games and download stuff, but only for half an hour a day pretty much. They also stated that after my cap was done i would experince dial up speeds, but really they just turn it off and cant load anything untill the next day. Personaly, i rrreeaally hate hughesnet.

I worked for HughesNet's Customer Billing Support Desk and I myself hated it! I'm from the Philippines and receives call everyday from irate customers. Believe it or not guys, we do our best to assist you. However, from the Billing Dept's end, there's not much that we can do to help you with the connection. That's the Tech Support's thing. BUT the TS is based in India. for God's sake! I never liked speaking with them! It's like talking to a bunch of turkeys! Urgh!

Having worked with them, I can tell you a great way to get rid of your HughesNet account without any termination fees.

Basically, you just have to call the billing department and tell them that you're in the military who's going to be deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. They won't ask for any proof. Believe me!

The account holder should be the one to pretend that he/she's going to be deployed.

Goog Luck!

I didn't last the 30 day trial period. Hughesnet is so awful I couldn't bear to be in bed with them for two years. The "tech" installed an HN7000 model on my property (blocking a skylight despite my request not to)in November, 2011 and I later found out (from Hughesnet employees)that it is an out of date, obsolete system that they have not installed on homes since 2009. I was told I would have a lot of trouble in 1-2 years and be forced to purchase an upgrade(and the contract automatically extended).

Customer service is a total joke. They run you around like a gerbil on a wheel. They lie. They tell you they will start a "case review" and then never do.

They charged me for the Purchase plan and then also charged me the higher, monthly LEASE rate. I could go on and on.

Oh, yeah, not to mention the SLOOOOW connection. I routinely download at about 100 kbps to 160 kbps. I have never been FAPped because I haven't been able to download that much data over the slow service.

I am back on dial up and praying someday real internet service comes to my area. Hughesnet is not worth the, literal, headaches. They suck away your time, money, and energy.

Good for you!!! One of the things I look forward to most about moving is that I will no longer have to put up with paying $80 a month for a 300mb data limit. My cell phone plan is much more generous with data, and a lot faster. It is a shame AT&T said that they would take away my unlimited data plan if I used it to tether again, or I would just drop HughesNet right now.

HughesNet's customer service is a joke. At day 31 I tried to cancel the service. $400 fee. No exceptions. I told them how dissatisfied I was. Didn't seem concerned.

Will spent the next 24 months bad mouthing them.

HughesNet SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

For six years we suffered through mediocre service. Then we got an alternative through microwave and the true horror show began. They do everything possible to prevent you from cancelling, even when you have a clear right. Too bad politicans are owned by those types, otherwise there might be some laws and regulations aimed at helping ordinary people.
